MLB: Cleveland Indians at Washington Nationals

Pitching for the Indians today will be right-hander Josh Tomlin. In his 20 starts and 11-4 record this year, Tomlin holds and 3.81 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP in 125.1 innings. In his most recent outing against the Yankees, Tomlin put up just 4.2 innings with nine hits and seven earned for a loss.

The Cleveland lineup features a few hitters up top. Francisco Lindor has managed 130 hits with 74 runs, 13 homers and 55 RBI. Jason Kipnis has hit 121 times with 65 runs, 19 homers and 61 RBI. Jose Ramirez has managed 113 hits with 56 runs and 46 RBI this year.

The Nationals will be rolling out lefty Gio Gonzalez today. Over 22 starts, Gonzalez owns a 4.13 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP in 128.2 innings. Gonzalez put up a win in his last outing against the Giants, going seven strong with two hits and one earned.

Washington has some interesting hitters of their own. Daniel Murphy has logged 139 hits with 66 runs, 21 homers and 81 RBI. Wilson Ramos has hit 116 times with 52 runs, 18 homers and 62 RBI. Anthony Rendon has 105 hits with 65 runs, 13 homers and 46 RBI so far.

The Indians are 10-4 in their last 14 game twos of a series, and 12-3 in Tomlin’s last 15 road starts. Cleveland is also 23-6 in Tomlin’s last 29 starts, and 5-2 in Tomlin’s last seven interleague starts.

As for the Nationals, they are 50-22 in their last 72 Wednesday games, and 7-1 in their last eight game twos of a series. Washington is also 4-10 in Gonzalez’s last 14 starts, and 16-4 in Gonzalez’s last 20 Wednesday starts.

I like the way Gonzalez is throwing right now, so I will take the Nationals to get the victory here.
