MLB: Chicago Cubs at Oakland Athletics & Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Dodgers

7th August 2016

Chicago Cubs at Oakland Athletics

The Oakland Athletics have been struggling to get their arms and bats on the same page. That trend continued Saturday afternoon with the bats going silent to send the Athletics to their 6th defeat in seven contests. A’s starter Sonny Gray gave up a pair of runs on five hits through five innings to absorb the loss with Liam Hendricks allowing two runs in an inning. Oakland mustered four hits and a base on balls with Yonder Alonso smacking a double. Rookie Sean Manaea looks to contain the dangerous offense of the Cubs on Sunday. Manaea comes off of a 5-4 defeat at the Angels with all five runs plated on six hits and three BB in 5.2 frames.

The over is 7-1 in the Cubs last 8 Sunday games and is 12-4-3 in their last 19 road games while the under is 13-5-2 in their last 20 on grass. The over is 6-1-1 in Oakland’s last 8 interleague games. I’ll back the Cubs and hope they do NOT let up but too juicy for me.

Pick: Cubs -168

Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Dodgers

Pitching for the Red Sox on Sunday will be left-hander David Price. Over his 23 starts and 9-7 record this year, Price holds a 4.30 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP in 150.2 innings. In his last outing against the Mariners, Price put up a no-decision on seven innings, seven hits and four earned.

Let us check out a few of the key Boston hitters. Mookie Betts holds 145 hits with 85 runs, 23 homer and 73 RBI. Xander Bogaerts has hit 144 times with 80 runs, 25 doubles and 67 RBI with 14 homers. As for Dustin Pedroia, he has gotten 127 hits with 71 runs, 12 homers and 46 RBI.

Over on the Dodgers’ side, we will be getting another look at right-hander Brandon McCarthy today. Over six starts and a 2-2 record this year, McCarthy owns a 3.07 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP in 29.1 innings. Taking a loss his last time out in Colorado, McCarthy gave up three hits and three runs.

The L.A. lineup is pretty stout as well. Corey Seager has hit 129 times with 19 homers, 52 RBI and 71 runs. Adrian Gonzalez has 110 hits with 42 runs and 52 RBI. Justin Turner holds 105 hits with 52 runs, 19 homers and 64 RBI.

The Red Sox are 4-1 in their last five Sunday games, and 39-13 in their last 52 against the National League West. Boston is also 4-1 in Price’s last five Sunday starts, and 0-4 in Price’s last five road starts.

As for the Dodgers, they are 24-9 in their last 33 home games, and 45-21 in their last 66 game threes of a series. L.A. is also 39-19 in their last 58 Sunday games, and 0-4 in McCarthy’s last four starts.

I’ll take Price and the Red Sox for the victory in the finale.

Pick: Red Sox -108
